Chelan Brown accuses former MGM Springfield President Mathis of lying to state, running casino like a fraternity
A former employee at MGM Springfield filed a discrimination lawsuit last week alleging that senior management including MGM Springfields President at the time Michael Mathis racially discriminated against her and pressured her to submit falsified reports on the companys diversity hiring practices to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
The lawsuit further alleges that Mathis attempted to force then-diversity manager Chelan Brown to commit illegal acts on his behalf and that her refusal to do so led to Browns termination in November 2019. Brown alleges Mathis retaliated against her by effectively demoting her to a conference services job she had no prior experience in and that she was often berated in a discriminatory fashion as a result.
