BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen in talks with US trade minister | Forexlive

Handelsblatt is reporting citing company sources that:

  • BMW, Mercedes, and Volkswagen are in talks with US trade minister on tariffs. Aim for an agreement by the start of July
  • Working with US on mechanism to offset imports and exports.
  • Considering investing theories in US as part of hospital tariffs deal

The tariff situation used to be country to country. With Trump talking about imposiing tariffs directly on Apple, and direct deal talks like these with European auto makers (the US already made concessions to the like of Roll Royce in the UK as well), it is moving toward company deals to avert tariffs.

I can imagine the likes of Nike will also be in line for direct talks, but each business is unique in the requirements for production, however.

A query of shoes being manufactured in the US, the list is mostly specialty lines .

  • New Balance – One of the few major athletic brands that still makes shoes in the U.S. About 4 million pairs annually are made in five U.S. factories (Massachusetts and Maine).

  • Red Wing Shoes – High-quality work boots and heritage footwear made in Red Wing, Minnesota.

  • Wolverine (including the 1000 Mile Boot) – Some models are made in the USA, especially their heritage and work boot lines.

  • Danner – Known for durable hiking and work boots, many of which are made in Portland, Oregon.

  • Allen Edmonds – Premium dress shoes, handcrafted in Port Washington, Wisconsin.

  • Rancourt & Co. – Handmade leather shoes and moccasins produced in Maine.

  • Thorogood – Work boots made by the Weinbrenner Shoe Company in Wisconsin.

  • Oak Street Bootmakers – Handcrafted leather shoes made in Chicago.

  • Quoddy – Traditional moccasin-style footwear made in Maine.

  • Softstar Shoes – Minimalist shoes made in Oregon.

Keep in mind that “Made in the USA” sometimes applies only to specific lines or limited runs, so it’s good to check labels or product details.
