At a party executive meeting on Monday, Ishiba called for a 50% increase in average household income and for nominal GDP to reach 1,000 trillion yen by 2040.
He urged the LDP to treat these objectives as central to its campaign for the House of Councillors election, positioning them as a clear alternative to the opposition’s focus on consumption tax cuts.
And, of course, further context …. Japan’s 27th House of Councillors election is set to take place by 22 July 2025, with 124 of the 248 upper house seats up for grabs.
