Republican Norman says he is a “No” on rule and also the Senate tax bill | Forexlive
Republican Norman tells Bloomberg, that he is a “no” on rule and Senate Bill.
The initial House Republicans who voted “no” on the Trump-backed “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (initial passage on May 22):
These were the only two Republican “no” votes, with all Democrats also opposing it. The final tally was 215–214–1, including one “present” vote from Rep. Andy Harris (R–MD).
No with the Senate version adding to the deficit, Norman seems to be another desenter. Norman, prior to passage, warned that the Senate version could fail in a House-wide procedural vote before lawmakers could even contend with the measure itself. A rule vote is traditionally taken to allow for debate on legislation before lawmakers weigh in on it.
Eric Burlison, R-Mo., is another potential Republican who could make passage more difficult . Both He and Norman are House Freedom Caucus members and are opposed to the Senate bill which would add an extra $1 trillion to raise the debt limit, compared to the House version. In addition, it would permanently extend certain corporate tax cuts in President Donald Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that the House only extended temporarily.
