Japan prime minister Ishiba reportedly pressured to resign in LDP meeting | investingLive

Japan’s ruling LDP party held a meeting today, involving lawmakers from both houses of the National Diet to discuss the recent upper house election loss. Ishiba apologised for the defeat but remained adamant that he will not resign. However, it is being reported that during the meeting many lawmakers urged Ishiba to step down amid the intense scrutiny in the past two weeks.

There are rumours going around that Ishiba actually did intend to resign and confided to close confidants on the matter. However, when the news was leaked and made a headline, his stubborn nature is now wanting to “continue for a little longer”.

Something to note is that recent opinion polls on Ishiba have been rather interesting as well. The latest poll by Asahi has 47% not wanting Ishiba to resign and 41% wanting him to resign. As for the poll by Mainichi, 42% say Ishiba should resign while 33% say that it was not necessary. Those aren’t bad numbers at all
