This is the first weekly gain in consumer sentiment since late September.

Confidence in financial conditions and economic conditions drove the rise:

• 31% (+1.3ppt) of people expecting to be ‘better off’ financially this time next year
• 8% (+1.4ppt) expecting ‘good times’ for the economy
